IRON SIGN SODJE

7 January 2013

United have signed free agent Akpo Sodje on a deal until the end of the season.

The striker left previous club Preston North End in December and becomes Brian Laws’ first permanent signing since his return to the club last October.

He bagged seven goals in 17 games for Preston in the first half of the current campaign including four strikes in five league starts.

The 32 year-old will bring a vast amount of experience to Glanford Park having represented no fewer than 14 different teams since signing his first professional contract with Queens Park Rangers back in 2001.

Sodje links up with Laws for the second time in his career after previously being signed by the current Iron boss during his managerial spell at Championship side Sheffield Wednesday in 2007.

The 6ft 2in Nigerian, who will turn 33 at the end of this month, is part of a large family of athletes with brothers Sam, Efe and Steve as well as nephew Onome all plying their trade in the football world whilst further afield, brother, Bright, is a retired dual-code rugby player.
