Report: Iron Under-18s 1-2 Grimsby Town Under-18s

23 September 2017

The Iron’s Under-18 team were beaten 2-1 by their Grimsby Town counterparts at Brumby Hall on Saturday morning.

United started the game well and created a few chances, but unfortunately weren’t as clinical as they have been in recent weeks, and didn’t make their momentum and authority count.

The two sides went in level at half-time, but Grimsby started better in the second period though, and, after being on the front foot during the opening period, Scunthorpe were on the back foot.

Grimsby took the lead in a manner that was disappointing in regards to the principles of defending the Under-18s work on.

The Iron responded well though and levelled through a good goal by Miracle Okafor. A cross was put into the box and it was cleared, with United winning the loose ball and the ball reaching Okafor, who strongly held the opposition off and struck a good shot into the roof of the net.

Unfortunately, Grimsby regained the lead though and scored from 25 yards.

Although United weren’t at their best, a draw would have been perhaps a fair result. However, it will prove a good learning tool for the young players that you have to concentrate for 95+ minutes in a game of football.

Team: Kelsey, Harrison, Bartholomew (Colclough, 88), Hornshaw, Lilley, Morfoot, Busby (Pugh, 75), Porter, Collins (Okafor, 54), Allasan, Train.
Unused substitute: Riches.
