WOOLFORD SAYS DRAW BOOSTS IRON
Posted on: Sun 29 Nov 2009
Goal hero Martyn Woolford says he and his team-mates were massively boosted by Saturday's 1-1 home draw with Leicester.
The former York winger, who was a substitute, struck an equaliser with the last kick of the game to seal a share of the spoils for Nigel Adkins' men - and most importantly their first league point since October 20.
And the 24-year-old believes Scunthorpe can look forward with optimism now to four vital games against teams around them at the bottom of the Championship table, in the shape of Coventry, Barnsley, Reading and Ipswich.
"I think it's a massive goal," he told The Iron Player.
"We've had some poor results of late and needed to come here and get something out of the game.
"I know the lads were disappointed to concede so early in the game, but everybody showed fight and character until the end, and we got something out of the game, which was deserved.
"If we hadn't conceded so early we could have maybe got the win, we've shown we can beat the top sides in the league.
"I suppose you can say that about every game though - we're just pleased that we managed to get something from the game.
"We were on a losing streak but we've stopped that now and hopefully can start looking forward."
