MIRFIN LOOKING TO CAUSE A SHOCK
Posted on: Mon 08 Feb 2010

Iron defender David Mirfin says his team will have no fear heading to West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday night.
Scunthorpe suffered their first defeat of 2010 when Crystal Palace beat them 2-1 through a last-gasp goal on Saturday, but Mirfin says the trip to face Roberto Di Matteo's second-placed side won't be daunting for an Iron outfit striving to pick up points and put further distance between themselves and the relegation zone.
"We play well against the better teams of the division," Mirfin told The Iron Player.
"West Brom are renowned for being a passing team but we've got players who can pass the ball equally as well.
"It's going to be a great game and it's up to us to prove people wrong."
They have already locked horns with the Baggies in recent weeks, as the West Midlands club recorded a 3-1 victory against a ten-man Scunthorpe team at Christmas.
"Maybe we gave them a bit too much respect when we took them on at Glanford Park in December," he added.
"They're a great team and they're where they are on merit.
"It's up to us to stop how they normally play and impose ourselves on the game."
The 24-year-old was passed fit for the weekend clash after shaking off a hamstring injury and thought he had earned his side a point six minutes from time when he climbed high to head in the equaliser.
It wasn't to be for an out of luck United side though.
"We were really disappointed in the changing room after the game," continued the former Huddersfield centre-back.
"I think we even had a chance of getting a win, but the way they scored late on made it all the more disappointing."
