United travel to Leicester City on Saturday bidding to spring a surprise at the league's sixth-placed club and climb away from relegation trouble.

After a week in which they lost their two Championship matches, Scunthorpe now find themselves just one place and one point above the Championship drop zone.

Encouraged by a fine display against the new league leaders West Bromwich Albion, although they lost 2-0, the Iron aren't short of confidence heading to the Walkers Stadium.

Marcus Williams returns from a one-match suspension so will start at left-back in place of on-loan Brendan Moloney, who has gone back to Nottingham Forest after suffering a medial ligament injury at West Brom.

Manager Nigel Adkins will find out on Friday if the club's appeal to have Cliff Byrne's red card at West Brom rescinded is successful. The Irishman's dismissal was 'very harsh' according to the Iron chief.~

Having been sent off at Middlesbrough earlier this season too, the captain faces a two game ban, but should it be overturned he will start at right-back. Andrew Wright, back from an ankle problem, will come in should he miss out.

There could be other changes, with Paul Hayes pushing for a start after he was rested in midweek.

"Paul Hayes has played 61 consecutive games and has been on the pitch for more minutes than anybody," explained manager Nigel Adkins in his pre-match press conference.

"I rate him very, very highly and I think everybody realises that.

"We tried to win a game of football at West Bromwich Albion and sometimes you have to change things around.

"We're trying to do what is right with the group of players that we've got.

"The top teams will keep rotating their squads around. We haven't got a big enough squad to do that but we need to get the best out of what we have."

Garry Thompson (hamstring) will be out for a fortnight, so is missing for United again.

The Foxes are without top scorer Matty Fryatt, who is out for up to two months with a broken jaw, and fellow striker Yann Kermorgant is also a doubt.

The referee for the game is David Phillips.
